Category-based selection is a targeted approach within the Express Entry system that allows Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to issue Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates who have specific skills, work experience, or language abilities that align with Canada's economic priorities and labour market needs.
Instead of inviting candidates based solely on their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, these draws focus on specific attributes, giving a better chance to those who might not have the highest CRS score but possess in-demand qualifications.
IRCC has identified the following categories for targeted draws to address workforce shortages:

These categories are reviewed annually and may change based on Canada's evolving economic needs.
To be invited in a category-based draw, you must meet two levels of criteria. Think of it as a three-step process:
This approach offers significant advantages for both Canada and prospective immigrants:
"My case was complex, but the team's expertise in category-based selection helped me get an ITA through the healthcare draw. I am so grateful for their guidance and support!"
"As a software engineer, I was worried my CRS score was too low. BritishOxford advised me on how to position my profile for the STEM category draw, and it worked! Highly professional and knowledgeable."
